Price is a big factor when it comes to most people’s buying decisions, but usually an even bigger factor is getting quality for the money you spend. Many people make the mistake of getting the cheapest they can find, and they usually are disappointed.  So we often suggest that shoppers buy as much coat as they are able. With furs, quality does improve often with price.

Some of the softest furs available are mink furs. Mink fur coats are typically exclusively styled and manufactured overseas.

Tips for selecting real furs: When you purchase a new fur, be sure to check to make sure you’re getting a real fur. It’s amazing how realistic faux furs can be today. Run your hands through the fur on the outside of the coat. There should be two separate layers of fur. There is an under fur that is short and thick and then longer hairs, called guard hairs. Each type should be of the same length.

Check the inside of the coat looking for quality of tailoring. Really well made coats will not have a hem at the bottom and you should be able to look under the lining. Here you can inspect the furs and make sure that they are sewn together properly. Check the seams to make sure no fur is caught there.

Furs are required by law to be labeled with where it was made. The best quality furs come from North America and Europe. The ones from China are usually the lowest quality. If there is a lot of leather included in the coat, that is usually done to save the costs of the manufacturing. You should pay less for one of those.

And finally look for a pelt label. This indicates that the pelts met a certain standard. Some of the more common labels are from the American Legend mink cooperative, Saga Furs of Scandinavia and NAFA (North American Fur Assoc).

Whichever type of fur you end up purchasing, you are sure to enjoy the comfort and style.  Rabbit fur coatsmink fur coats and even shearling coats for women and men are wonderful selections.
